A patient came into surgery this morning reeking of Olbas Oil and I was violently transported straight back to the dissection room, Sheffield University circa 1993..........the huge cavernous room, the cold chemical atmosphere, dozens of cadavers lying on big silver tables, an array of blades and saws, that big blue bucket at the top of the table and all of us students wearing filthy white coats clutching our hankies doused with the foul green stuff........with a persistent fear you might be demanded to identify some unimaginably-hard-to-find muscle, nerve or tendon by a terrifyingly knowledgeable "demonstrator".I so wish I had been able to find it fascinating and enjoyable rather than terrifying and deeply upsetting..........your not supposed to regret stuff but I do wish I could go back and do it all again with some self-confidence.
Olbas oil - one of the most potent smells I will ever know (**deep down full-body shudder**)
